North East Express train derailed in Bihar ; Four Killed

Patna, 14th October: Following the Wednesday derailment of the North East Express in Bihar, four persons died and about thirty more were hurt. Around 9:35 pm, the tragedy happened close to Raghunathpur station in Buxar.

The train was traveling to Kamakhya near Guwahati in Assam when it left Anand Vihar Terminus in Delhi. Among the four people killed in the Bihar railway tragedy were an Assamese woman and her eight-year-old daughter. According to the primary enquiry, they are Usha Bhandari, 33, and Aakriti. They lived in the Tinsukia district of Assam’s Sadiya neighborhood. The Commissioner of Railway Safety will look into the event, per a request from the Railways.

The North East Express, which was traveling from Guwahati to Raghunathpur, derailed completely at 9.45 p.m. on Wednesday, and four of its AC carriages in the back of the train flipped.

All the passengers were evacuated from the location by two in the morning after state and federal emergency response authorities joined the rescue efforts about 11.30 p.m. At government facilities in Bhonpur, Buxar, and Patna, 33 passengers were receiving medical attention for injuries, while 38 others had been released after receiving care.

The victims’ families received a message from Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressing his sympathies. Himanta Biswa Sarma, the chief minister of Assam, also sent his sincere sympathies. The tracks are now undergoing restoration work.
